BBC’s Laura Bicker can’t wait to swap the US for South Korea

- By John Jeffay

SHE has reported from windswept coastal towns in her home county and more recently took on the gusts of Caribbean hurricanes.

Now BBC journalist Laura Bicker is being posted to Seoul.

The news correspondent has disclosed that she is being transferred to South Korea in her latest move for the Corporation.

She has covered some of the biggest stories breaking from the US since being dispatched to Washington in 2015.

But the journalist, pictured, who grew up in Ayrshire and has been with the BBC for 16 years, said she cannot wait to start her new job. She told the Sunday Post: ‘I’ve loved working in Washington and travelling to stories across the US. But it’s time for a new challenge.

‘The eyes of the world are on the Korean Peninsula and the war of words between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

‘I look forward to bringing that story to BBC audiences.’

The move caps a whirlwind two years for the journalist. On her arrival in the US, she was thrust into covering the race for the White House which saw Trump installed as President in January.

Last month she was the first foreign reporter to reach the Caribbean island of Barbuda devastated by Hurricane Irma.

In recent weeks she has been covering the scandal involving movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Now she is expected to take the move to Seoul in her stride.

‘When it comes to taking a leap for my career I don’t worry about it too much,’ she said.
