Family fears as Denise disappears near canal

- By Annie Butterworth

POLICE yesterday issued an urgent appeal for a Glasgow woman who has been missing since Friday morning.

Concerns were growing for Anne Denise Doyle, known as Denise, who was last seen leaving her mother’s house in Maryhill around 9.30am.

Police dogs and a helicopter have been involved in searching the area but last night no trace of the 53year-old woman had been found.

It came as officers continued appeals to help trace Karen Brown, who has been missing from her family home in Clydebank, Dunbartonshire, for nearly ten days.

The 47-year-old mother of two was due to start work at the local supermarket at 10am but did not turn up. Her husband Jock, 48, reported her missing when she failed to return home later that day.

Highlighting the more recent case, Police Scotland’s Inspector Stevie Kinvig yesterday said: ‘We understand that Denise has been dealing with some personal issues at the moment which are causing her some concern. However, she has a close, supportive family who, as she has never been missing before, are worried about her.

‘As both Denise and her mother live near the local canal, officers, including the force helicopter and dog unit, have been searching the area as well as around her home.’

She is described as white, 5ft 5in, slim build, with brown eyes and dark greying hair which is tied up in a ponytail.

Police also issued a fresh appeal for information about Mrs Brown on Saturday, a week after she went missing from her home.

CCTV footage revealed Mrs Brown boarded a Megabus from Glasgow to London the previous Saturday morning and there was a possible sighting of her at Hamley’s toy store in London on Tuesday.

Officers have said they are ‘extremely concerned’ for the missing grandmother.

Inspector David Quinn said Police Scotland was now working with officers in London and Hampshire, where Mrs Brown and her husband lived while he was in the Navy.

He added: ‘Her family and friends are desperately worried about her and just want her to come home.’

Mrs Brown is described as white, 5ft 6in, medium build, with collarlength brown hair and brown eyes.
