Judge puts Woods on probation and rehab

- By DAVID KENT

TIGER WOODS yesterday pleaded guilty to reckless driving and agreed to enter a rehabilitation programme as part of his punishment for driving under the influence of drugs. In the programme, Woods will spend a year on probation and pay a $250 fine as well as court costs. He must also attend DUI school, perform 20 hours of community service and attend a workshop where victims of impaired drivers detail how their lives were damaged. Woods was arrested in the early hours of May 29, after being found slumped in his car. Court reports said he was intoxicated with prescription drugs and marijuana. The judge warned Woods (pictured) to stay out of trouble, saying: ‘This particular plea agreement has no jail time on it. ‘However, if you violate your probation in any significant way, I could revoke your probation and then I could sentence you to jail for 90 days.’ Woods had the active ingredient for marijuana, two painkillers — Vicodin and Dilaudid — the sleep drug Ambien and the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his system when he was found by police officers. Woods said he had been self-medicating to relieve the pain from his fourth back surgery and insomnia. Woods has not competed since February because of his back injury and is not expected to return this year. His last tournament win was in August 2013.

lWORLD No 1 Dustin Johnson fired four birdies in his last four holes to take a one-shot lead at halfway in the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai. Johnson’s 63 took him to 13 under, one ahead of fellow American Brooks Koepka. Justin Rose and Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat are four shots back in a tie for third.
