TV winner who slept with boy, 15, is spared prison

- By Ashlie McAnally

A WINNER of TV’s Come Dine With Me who admitted having sex with a 15year-old boy has avoided being jailed.

Lucy Haughey, 37, arranged via Facebook for the boy to come to her house.

The mother of three and the teenager had sex, with Haughey later confessing to a friend online that she was a ‘bad person’.

Haughey also said: ‘I’m glad it was me and not a skinny, skanky 15-year-old schemie.’

However, the friend told the 15year- old’s mother and the boy broke down when confronted about what had happened.

Haughey, from Glasgow’s south side, appeared at the city’s sheriff court earlier this month and admitted engaging in sexual activity with the boy. Yesterday, sheriff Shona Gilroy handed her a three-year community payback order, put her on the sex offenders register for three years and imposed a three-year non-harassment order banning her from contacting the boy or his family.

The sheriff told Haughey: ‘Your conduct in this offence was vile.’

Haughey was also told she presented a ‘significant risk’ of sexual offending towards teenagers known to her. Under the community payback order, she must have no contact with children under 16, not use social media without permission and not delete her internet history.

Procurator fiscal depute Claire Whyte said Haughey arranged with the boy last year via Facebook they ‘would meet up at her home address during June 25 and have sex together’.

She said he told his mother he was ‘going to play football’ and went to Haughey’s house. Miss Whyte added: ‘They sat talking together for some time before Haughey asked the witness to go into her bedroom with her.’ They

had sex in her bedroom and he later left, the court heard.

Months l ater, speaking to another friend on Facebook Messenger, Haughey admitted what had happened. Asked i f the mother knew, she said: ‘She can’t ever know.’

She asked the friend to delete their internet conversation. Miss Whyte added: ‘ The disclosure made did not sit well with her, she contacted the boy’s mother via Facebook.’

The matter was later reported to police. Earlier this year Haughey was given a community payback order after bombarding her then boyfriend’s ex-partner with threatening and abusive messages.

In that case, Sheriff Linda Ruxton made it a condition of the order that Haughey must do 250 hours’ unpaid work i n eight months, along with a two-year nonharassment order.

In the Channel 4 show participants compete to host the best dinner party. Haughey won £1,000 in an episode shown in January.
