What follows is perhaps best not watched this close to bedtime, even on Halloween.

COUNT DRACULA is recast as a doting father and owner of a hotel for monsters. After his daughter turns 118 and yearns to fly the crypt, the Count must learn to let her fall in love — even if it’s with a human.

THE new series of Sky’s special forces drama swiftly introduces us to its new duo of sparring soldiers: a Brit on the verge of court martial (Liar’s Warren Brown) and an undercover, undiscipli­ned American. Joining them is Game Of Thrones’ Roxanne McKee as Captain Reynolds.

DR CHRISTIAN JESSEN and his team of supportive specialist­s return to assist those in need — here, with unexplaine­d weight loss and fertility problems. All of that feels moving and useful, but why did no one make his office look a bit more friendly?

COMEDY MUSINGS Dave Gorman: Modern Life Is Goodish, 10pm, Dave

AS HIS series of gentle rages against life’s lesser issues returns, the comic offers £20 to any audience member who can tell the difference between Weetabix and a supermarke­t’s own brand of ‘wheat bisks’. This leads him into an amusing ramble about branded goods and tribute acts.

THIS horror anthology of ten shorts boasts a sprinkling of faces familiar to genre fans, including Lin Shaye and the film directors John Landis and Joe Dante.

GANGSTER DRAMA Snatch, 10pm, AMC

THIS new TV take on Guy Ritchie’s film, is so packed with colourful characters that it’s barely in contact with reality. Among its outlandish figures are Rupert Grint (pictured) as a London crook from the posh end of the spectrum and White Gold’s Ed Westwick as a fiery Cuban crimelord. (Sky 192, BT TV 332)

SCARY MOVIE Prevenge, 10.40pm, Film4

FILMED while its writer, director and star, Alice Lowe, was herself heavily pregnant, this British indie is unsettling and grisly, and just what Halloween calls for. Reeling from a tragedy, Ruth (Lowe) finds her pregnancy a horrifying and violent experience.
