Murty could never reject dream job

to turn this job down. For all that, it’s a high-powered and high-pressured job, and very much in the media spotlight. I have said before that this is one of the stellar jobs in British football. ‘You can’t turn it down. As I couldn’t turn it down when the board said to me: “Would you step up?” You cannot turn that down.’ Murty rejects the notion that others may take a more sceptical view of the merits of the post, given the continuing process of rebuilding at Ibrox. ‘Those are people who aren’t on the inside — and who don’t see the fantastic people we work with every day,’ said the former Scotland defender, who delivered three points in last weekend’s win over Hearts. ‘This is a fantastic football club. Whoever gets this job will be a very, very fortunate person. For people to think of turning it down because it’s not right, without knowing what goes on, I would urge them to think again. Because this club is a fantastic opportunity. ‘Rangers will match the expectations of the supporters when we win the league and get into the Champions League — and get some of those fantastic European nights. Until then, we will still be a work in progress. Whoever is in charge, that’s the aim for the football club. ‘Am I confident we have the right structure in place? I am. I see what goes on here every day, I see the work. Everything is here for the players to go and be excellent on a daily basis and push the club forward.’ Murty also disagrees that the Rangers job is currently too big for someone who would be taking their first steps as a full-time manager. ‘I don’t think so,’ he said. ‘This is the first and last time I will use the name Zidane. He hasn’t done too badly in his first managerial job. ‘I will not ever compare myself to him, managerially or footballwise. But I think the right person is the right person, regardless of when they get the job.’ Meanwhile, Murty revealed Fabio Cardoso will miss today’s Premiership meeting with Partick Thistle at Ibrox after being sent for an operation on the broken nose suffered in the Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Motherwell 13 days ago.
