Party in a state of anarchy, says Tory MP

A BACKBENCH Tory MP has warned Theresa May of a state of ‘anarchy’ engulfing the party.

In a savage attack, Plymouth MP Johnny Mercer claimed her premiership had reached a ‘critical point’ and now ‘smells of decline’.

The PM is jeopardising the ‘integrity and credibility’ of the party, he added, and needs to act quickly or the nation will be wrecked by the ‘existential threat’ posed by Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell. ‘It smells of decline, and the people won’t have it,’ Mr Mercer told the Daily Telegraph. ‘We would not be forgiven as a party for 20 years.’

The former Army captain said recent political events, including the Westminster sex scandal, were ‘depressing but not surprising’. He also accused Mrs May of appointing ‘the most famous names’ to Cabinet rather than the ‘best people’.
