PREPARA ADJUSTABLE OIL POURER

-

£6.99, John Lewis and lakeland.co.uk This pourer is designed to fit on top of any oil bottle and has a twist mechanism to adjust how fast the oil pours out for portion control. EXPERT VERDICT: Pourable vegetable oils are high in the healthier unsaturated fat that keeps cholesterol in check, but with 120 calories per tablespoon, it’s easy for people to overdo it, especially with olive oil, which people assume is healthy regardless.

Unfortunately, this gadget failed at the first hurdle — not fitting any of the oil bottles in my kitchen. even if it had worked, it still doesn’t actually measure you a fixed portion, it just controls the drizzle rate — either slow, medium or fast, with the idea being that you choose the ‘slow’ option to limit yourself. i would recommend simply pouring your oil on to a spoon instead. A sensible amount is no more than one tablespoon of oil for frying up mince for four, and about one tablespoon of salad dressing for one person.
