The secret tip for living life to the hilt
THE recent Mail series on how to live to be 100 shows that age is just a number. At 84, I am the oldest active fencer in Yorkshire and perhaps the country. I started fencing at 63 and have won many medals in competitions. Through my fundraising efforts for my fencing club, I was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace and a champagne reception at the Houses of Parliament. The trick is to keep busy and enjoy life: I give talks and demonstrations, have ten medals for running, go dog walking, paint watercolours, sing in two choirs and do charity work. I do not smoke or drink, and my little secret is taking cod liver oil. I have just had my first flying lesson and the instructor says I am a natural.
