Recipe for oatcakes, all the way from No 10

- By Maureen Sugden

ShE is a fan of the Great British Bake Off whose recipe for scones was criticised as ‘thrifty’ and ‘old-fashioned’ last year.

But undaunted, theresa May has taken time out from negotiating Brexit to offer up her contribution for a Scottish school’s fundraising recipe book.

Glenlivet Primary School pupil Amber innes wrote to the Prime Minister at the end of October to ask her for one of her favourite recipes to include in the upcoming publication.

And a week later, the nine-yearold primary four pupil from Moray received a response, with a recipe for chocolate oatcake.

On 10 Downing Street headed notepaper, Mrs May advises Amber that it will take only 25 minutes to bake her treat, using butter, caster sugar, self-raising flour, quick oats, cocoa and a pinch of salt,

Amber said her class was working hard to pull the recipe book together in time for a school event on Saturday and expressed delight t hat Mrs May had responded.

She said: ‘We’re raising money for MFR [Moray Firth Radio] Cash for Kids and our school funds.

‘We decided it would be good to make a book full of recipes from family, friends and famous faces. i wrote to theresa May to ask for a recipe. i was excited and amazed when i got a reply.’

Class teacher Alison Woodcock said: ‘Everyone at school was thrilled when Amber received a letter from Number 10.’
