Online sex con nurse facing jail

Doctor alias duped victims

- By Dean Herbert

A NURSE who posed as a male doctor to con women into sending her explicit photos wept in the dock yesterday as she was told to ‘expect’ a jail sentence.

Adele Rennie used several male aliases to trick social media and dating website users into forwarding her photographs a nd s e nding s e xual t e xt messages.

The 27-year- old, who targeted several young women between 2012 and 2016, even used a voice-changer app to maintain her charade during phone conversations with victims.

Yesterday, a sheriff described the details of her four-year campaign as ‘the most astounding’ she had heard in her judicial career.

Rennie, who worked at Crosshouse Hospital, in Kilmarnock, last week pleaded guilty at the town’s sheriff court to 18 charges relating to her four-year campaign.

Prosecutor Scott Toal told the court Rennie admitted to targeting ten women, the majority of whom lived in the Kilmarnock area, starting in 2012.

Her victims included a 23-yearold woman who she contacted on Facebook in 2013 posing as a ‘Dr Graham’.

Rennie, of Kilmarnock, used her alias to con the woman into sending her explicit photos of herself, and sent back images of a naked male.

When she eventually realised she had been duped, the woman suffered severe anxiety and was off work for two weeks.

Another victim agreed after ‘relentless’ pestering to share sexual messages with ‘David Graham’.

Mr Toal said: ‘ He would tell her what to do and sexual conduct took place over the phone.’

The woman also now suffers depression and anxiety.

In 2014, Rennie again posed as David Graham to contact a 17-yearold girl via the Tinder dating app.

A police probe began after another victim, 27-year- old Abbie Draper, realised she had been duped.

When officers visited her home, Rennie deleted her social media apps and internet history and tried to hide her mobile phone in the bathroom.

Sheriff Elizabeth McFarlane told Rennie: ‘I have just heard the most astounding narrative of facts I think I’ve heard in my entire career.’

Rennie wept after Sheriff McFarlane told her to expect custody when she is sentenced next month.

She was also placed on the sex offenders register.
