JACK’S NOT THE FIRST TO HAVE DEPARTED PITTODRIE FOR FIERCE RIVALS AT IBROX
RYAN JACK will be under scrutiny as he comes face-to-face with his old club for the first time but he’s just one of several players to have made the controversial switch from Aberdeen to fierce rivals Rangers. Here, NATHAN SALT highlights a few who have made the same move. DAVID ROBERTSON (Aberdeen: 1985-91, Rangers: 1991-97) Defender helped Dons lift the League Cup with a win over Rangers in 1989 before adding further silverware with Scottish Cup in 1990. But after moving to Ibrox in 1991, he went on to add a further 12 trophies to his haul. After 250 games for Rangers, he left for Leeds United but subsequent career never hit those heights. STEPHEN WRIGHT (Aberdeen: 1986-95, Rangers: 1995-98) Came through ranks at Aberdeen and made more than 140 appearances before his dream move to boyhood favourites Rangers. Alas, a cruciate ligament injury picked up in the Champions League against Juventus all but ended the defender’s hopes of a fruitful career at Ibrox. Only made seven appearances in three years. SONE ALUKO (Aberdeen: 2007-11, Rangers: 2011-12) Forward left Pittodrie on a free after turning down offer of a new contract to be closer to his family in the Midlands. However, after impressing on trial at Ibrox, Rangers signed him until the end of the season after a fraught compensation battle with the Dons. RICHARD FOSTER (Aberdeen: 2003-12, Rangers 2010-11 (loan) and 2013-15) Was sent to Ibrox on loan in 2010 as part of a swap with Rangers striker Andrius Velicka and helped them win title, but full-back was barracked by a section of Dons fans on his return after a permanent move to Govan failed to materialise. Eventually returned to Rangers on a two-year contract after short spell with Bristol City.
