That’s the sealiest joke I’ve ever heard!

- By Marlene Lenthang

WHATEVER the joke is, it seems to get the seal of approval from this merry marine mammal.

The seal appeared to be having the time of its life as it rolled around, apparently laughing for the cameras.

It was lying on the pebbles at Findhorn Bay, Moray, when a photographer passed by and noticed its hilarious looks.

From wide-mouthed laughs to bashful ‘face palms’, covering its eyes with a flipper, the creature gave Mark Johnson the full range of emotions. Mr Johnson, 49, a father of two from Aberdeen, was exploring the bay with his partner and fellow photographer Sue Demetrio, 49, when they noticed the female grey seal on her own.

According to Mr Johnson, seal pups are much like dogs and very inquisitive. He said: ‘The seals are normally on the other side of the estuary and you can’t reach them.

‘But this one seal pup must have decided to go for a bit of an adventure and explore. We slowly crept up to her, taking photos. She really looked like she was having a good laugh.

‘The way she was covering her face and rolling her eyes made her look embarrassed – like she’s trying to stop herself from laughing at a bad Christmas cracker joke.

‘She’s actually having a good yawn and scratching her head but this is the great thing about seals, they have the best facial expressions. They are so amusing and really comical.’
