Salma Hayek: Weinstein’s bullying over sex scene drove me to a breakdown
SALMA Hayek has revealed how she had a breakdown and was forced take a tranquilliser to get through a nude lesbian sex scene demanded by Harvey Weinstein.
The actress claimed the disgraced film producer ‘hated… the word no’ and in an attempt to control her on another occasion even threatened: ‘I will kill you – don’t think I can’t.’
Weinstein is being investigated by police in the US, Britain and France after dozens of women accused him of sexual misconduct, including at least three alleged rapes, going back decades. Miss Hayek’s revelations came in an article for The New York Times in which she said Weinstein constantly propositioned her and turned nasty when she said no.
Through his firm Miramax Film, he was producing the 2002 movie Frida, a biopic of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, played by Mexican-born Miss Hayek, who was also co-producer.
She said that in the run-up to the production she had rebuffed numerous propositions by Weinstein, including taking a shower with him and letting him perform oral sex on her.
Miss Hayek, 51, wrote that at as the film went into production, Weinstein said she had to do a full frontal sex scene with the character Tina Modotti, played by Ashley Judd, or he would cancel the movie.
The actress said she shook uncontrollably during the scene, crying and vomiting repeatedly, and had to take a tranquilliser to do it.
The film won two Oscars, but Miss Hayek said she remained ‘terrified’ of Weinstein for years.
