Ramsay suffers kitchen nightmare with an ‘N’
HE is a hot-tempered chef with Michelin-starred restaurants and shows on TV.
But Gordon Ramsay is not known for selling low-cost fry-ups to tourists.
So when he heard of a ‘Gordon Ransay’ restaurant in Corralejo on Fuerteventura, it was a real kitchen nightmare for the fiery Scot.
‘It’s a complete rip-off,’ said Ramsay of the eaterie that boasts a breakfast fry-up for just 2.95 euros. ‘They’ve been running it for years. Shocking!’
The tourist bar in Fuerteventura is the second to call itself ‘Gordon Ransay’. Already Ramsay, 51, has spent four years in a so far fruitless court battle against a Tenerife restaurant with the same name.
He told the High Court in London he receives ‘thousands of complaints’ about it but he has since been unable to force the owner to change the name.
Ramsay learned of the copycat venture in Fuerteventura when holidaymaker Dougie Henderson sent him a photo via social media, saying: ‘Thought that if they were gonna rip off your name they could have at least spelled it correctly.’
But even after spending less than three euros, some customers at ‘Gordon Ransay’ complained of cold food. One said: ‘The real Gordon Ramsay would rip this place to shreds.’
Restaurant manager José Garcia said of the name: ‘When people ask if it’s him, I say it’s not the chef Gordon Ramsay, because it’s not his name. It’s not exactly his name because of the letters “n” and “m”.’
