And FOUND!
bACK in July, we ran this request from Stewart Howie: ‘I enlisted in the RAF in 1961 and served at stations abroad and in the UK before retiring in 1984.
‘In June 1967, I was posted to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire as an accounts clerk in the station HQ.
‘I courted a young lady called barbara Foers, who worked in the same building and lived in a village a few miles from the camp. On her birthday in november, I asked her to be my bride.
‘In March 1968, we were married at the local village church and honeymooned in London. My best man, Allan black, was also an airman at Coningsby and a fellow Scot who had joined the RAF aged 15. He was a clerk secretarial.
‘Alas, after successive postings we lost touch with Allan. As our 50th wedding anniversary approaches in March 2018, I’m trying to trace him so he can come to the celebration. barbara and I have three sons and eight grandchildren. It would be wonderful to find out how Allan’s life has gone over the past 50 years.’
We have not traced Allan yet, but an old comrade has come forward.
‘What a blast from the past,’ emails Mickie Collins. ‘I knew Stewart and barbara very well as she worked in the general office with me.
‘They were a lovely pair and I’m pleased to see they have had a long and happy marriage. I was promoted and posted to RAF West Raynham in 1969, a year after they wed.’
