Posh loses £8m (no wonder she looks so grumpy!)

- By Clemmie Moodie

HER husband retired from a glittering career on the pitch four years ago, but it seems he’s still the main earner in the Beckham household.

Victoria saw losses at her fashion empire almost double to £8.5million last year – while former England captain David’s business made almost £25million.

In fact he dipped into his own companies again to help the mother of four. He handed the 43year-old designer a £19.3million cash boost – up from £3million in 2015. Last night a friend of the couple said: ‘Obviously this isn’t ideal for Victoria – and David very much has the bragging rights in the Beckham household right now.

‘But it’s not all doom and gloom, and the losses reflect massive expansion overseas as well as an increased investment in design and marketing. Victoria’s brand remains one of the most exclusive high-end designers out there, and she will continue to invest in a company she remains rightly proud of.’

Founded by the former Spice Girl in 2008, the fashion brand sells £995 clutch bags and dresses for £2,000. According to the latest accounts, losses doubled from £4.8 million in 2015 following heavy investment at both home and abroad.

In contrast, 42-year-old David’s image rights company DB Ventures is making £2million a month, according to documents filed at Companies House. He continues to front lucrative endorsements with Adidas, Haig Whisky and Kent & Curwen menswear. Despite its losses, Victoria’s fashion empire – which employs 180 staff – has been valued at £100million and attracted a £30million boost from investors. Robert Dodds, a director at the label, said it was ‘growing in strength’.
