Why isn’t Time Up for Bill Clinton, too?

-

Now oprah has officially made it her mission to save the vulnerable young women of America from the scourge of over- t acti l e men in positions of power (Harvey weinstein, Donald Trump), I do hope she is going to include on her hit list the grandaddy of all culprits.

I speak of Bill Clinton, who, almost exactly 20 years ago, took to the witness stand to refute claims by Paula Jones, a f ormer Arkansas state employee, that she had been harassed by him while he was state governor.

Jones’s prosecution subpoenaed Monica Lewinsky, a white House intern whom the President had seduced in the oval office.

Despite tapes proving their affair, Clinton insisted on TV that he ‘did not have sexual relations with that woman’.

what’s interesting is that what happened to Lewinsky in the wake of the scandal is precisely the kind of treatment oprah decries. Lewinsky was painted as a marriage-wrecker, l i ar and al l - r ound Jezebel, and the affair has blighted her life.

In contrast, Clinton was impeached, but got off scot-free, stories of his predatory behaviour disappearing like fog on a spring morning.

I f oprah ( pictured) is serious about the MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns, her first target should not j ust be the l ow- hanging f ruit, but the man who remains, to this day, at t he heart of America’s Liberal establishment.
