Wild boar are around 3ft3in tall, can weigh 20 stone and reach speeds of 30mph.

Native to forests in Europe, north-west Africa and Asia, they will eat almost anything, including dead animals, plants and scraps.

The hair of wild boar was often used to make toothbrush bristles until the 1930s before being replaced over hygiene concerns.

A boar was spotted roaming Gloucester city centre last summer and had learned to tip bins over.

Watch towers have been installed in the Forest of Dean to help marksmen kill boar.
