JANUARY 12, 1949 PArIS, city of the undressed revue, is short of nudes so none can be spared for the Folies Bergere’s British tour. Bernard Delfont, who is importing the show, will have to find six British girls. He was told: ‘You’ve come to the wrong place for nudes. We’re sending to England for ours. We can’t get French girls to take off their clothes these days.’ JANUARY 12, 1953 GENErAL Eisenhower does not like wearing a top hat. He hinted to those organising his inaugurati­on ceremony as President that he would like to wear an Anthony Eden black homburg. Officials point out that a top hat is traditiona­l for the ceremony.

SHIrLEY EATON, 81. The actress from Middlesex played Jill Masterson in Goldfinger — the Bond girl (right) killed by asphyxiati­on after being painted gold. Eaton, who started acting at 12, made 29 films including What A Carve Up! and Carry On Constable before retiring in 1969, aged 32, to bring up her children. The ‘golden girl’ recreated her look at 78 for a photoshoot for the Mail, saying: ‘If you are young in spirit, age is just a number.’ ZAYN MALIK, 25. The Bradford-born singer, who quit One Direction in 2015, published his autobiogra­phy at just 23. He said the success of the boy band left him battling anxiety and an eating disorder. Leaving 1D cost Malik £5 million in lost tour earnings, but he’s still in the Young rich List with a £37million fortune. He is in a relationsh­ip with U.S. model Gigi Hadid.

HEAVYWEIGH­T boxer Joe Frazier (1944-2011). rated as one of the ten best boxers of all time, he was probably best known for his bruising encounters with Muhammad Ali (right) — he won their first encounter and lost the next two bouts. Starting out, he worked at a meat processing plant in Philadelph­ia, where he trained by punching cattle carcasses, just like Sylvester Stallone in the film rocky. EDMUND BUrKE (1730-1797). Dublin-born statesman, orator, political thinker and philosophe­r, who, having moved to London in his 20s, became a Whig MP and is widely regarded as the philosophi­cal founder of modern conservati­sm.
