WITH a net worth of £40million at only 26 years old, he has no need to worry about being careful with his cash.

And Ed Sheeran has proved as much by snapping up four adjoining homes to turn into a sprawling country estate.

Locals in Suffolk have now dubbed the area ‘Sheeran-ville’ because the singer, whose hits include Shape Of You, Castle On The Hill and Lego House, owns so much property there.

Sheeran, who last week announced he was engaged to childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn, 25, intends the centrepiece of the huge development to be a main farmhouse complete with an underground ‘man cave’.

The subterranean den will feature a music room and cinema.

He already has a giant treehouse, hot tub and swimming pool, as well as a barn converted into a pub. One villager, who asked not to be named, said: ‘Ed is a super guy and really friendly. He is just a downto-earth Suffolk boy at heart – so who can blame him for wanting to settle down here? It is a lovely part of the world. He has bought all the properties next door. I guess it means that there is nobody to complain if he plays his music too loudly.’

Sheeran has a team of builders who have been busy renovating his houses and outbought buildings, which overlook open fields and rambling countryside. The singer, who met Miss Seaborn at school, has previously spoken of his love for Suffolk, where he was raised, and his desire to put down roots in the county.

Land Registry records reveal that he his large modern detached farmhouse and the surrounding land for £895,000 in June 2012. At the same time, he snapped up the 16th century Grade IIlisted house next door for £450,000.

Sheeran then started his programme of extensive improvements.

His most striking addition was a tree house complex made up of three interconnected timber huts with conical roofs on a raised platform. He also added a 26ft by 26ft ‘pod’ in his garden which has been described by locals as ‘a Hobbit Hole’.

A third property, a four-bedroom detached house, was bought for £925,000 in September 2016. In 2005, the same home had been sold for £330,000, suggesting the singer may have paid over the odds to secure the purchase.

He then splashed out again in October, buying property number four – a bungalow on the other side of his driveway – for £525,000. A spokesman for Sheeran has been contacted for comment.
