Uber ‘morals were wrong’

-

uBER boss Dara Khosrowshahi admitted the firm’s moral compass was ‘not pointed where it was needed’ as he tried to draw a line under a series of scandals.

The 48-year-old also said he was hopeful a row with authorities in London could soon be resolved.

The taxi app firm has been locked in a legal tussle with Transport for London (TfL) since October, when officials abruptly announced they would not renew uber’s operating licence.

TfL pointed to a string of controversial practices used by the company and accused it of not properly vetting drivers. uber has appealed the decision, with a court showdown scheduled for the spring.

But Khosrowshahi hinted a solution could be found before then. He met with one of TfL’s commissioners and this month extended olive branches, including a cap on driver working hours and support for London Mayor sadiq Khan’s plan to pedestrianise Oxford street.

speaking from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Khosrowshahi said: ‘i’m cautiously optimistic about the regulators in London. We have asked them to be patient with us in some areas but i have been very clear that we can deliver. We believe London with uber in it is a better city.’

He said he was confident the company could move on from several damaging revelations late last year. it emerged some staff had spied on users of the uber app, with the company also failing to disclose a serious theft of data by hackers until Khosrowshahi’s arrival.

He said: ‘The moral compass of the company has not been pointed where it was needed.’
