Wilson is attracting attention from MLS

- By MARK WILSON

DANNY WILSON could make a surprise exit from Rangers this month after receiving potentially lucrative interest from the MLS. The 26-year-old defender’s contract expires at the end of the season and he recently expressed a desire to remain with the Ibrox side, who are edging closer to a £600,000 move for Hamilton midfielder Greg Docherty. However, no agreement on extending Wilson’s deal has yet been reached and the player is thought to be attracting attention from Sporting Kansas City and Colorado Rapids. He has been a regular starter for Rangers since Graeme Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha as boss in October and earned widespread praise for his performance in the goalless draw against Celtic on

December 30. But with doubt now surrounding his future, it remains to be seen whether the former Liverpool centre-back will feature when Aberdeen visit Ibrox tonight in the clubs’ first post-winter break Premiership fixture. Speaking earlier this month when Rangers began their training camp in Florida, Wilson (below) had insisted: ‘I really want to stay at Rangers. ‘I’m in the last six months of my contract now, so something will happen one way or another. ‘But I hope it’s to stay at Rangers because I’m never happier than when I’m here playing games. ‘It’s a discussion that will hopefully be had in the near future. In the meantime, I just need to do the best I can for the rest of the season. Hopefully it’ll take care of itself and I’ll not have to worry about it.’ Rangers remain in negotiations to make Docherty their fifth January signing after the arrivals of Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy, Russell Martin and Jason Cummings. While aspects of an agreement over a fee are now thought to be in place, Accies are standing firm on other details before concluding any deal. Meanwhile, Ibrox midfielder Ryan Jack is awaiting definitive news on his knee injury amid fears he could be ruled out for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old was stretchered off following a challenge from Motherwell defender Cedric Kipre in a 2-0 win back on December 27. There were initial hopes that Jack could make a swift recovery from the damage, but he played no active part in Rangers’ winter training camp in Florida and underwent a scan with a specialist last week.

Sportsmail understands there are now concerns that the former Aberdeen captain could be sidelined for several months, although he retains hope of a shorter absence. Asked about squad injuries yesterday, manager Murty said: ‘Kenny Miller trained today for part of it, Jordan Rossiter trained today for part of it. Ross McCrorie, Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Bruno Alves and Lee Wallace didn’t take any part in training and they are varying distances, but all significant distances, away from being fit.’
