Snowflakes? Not this couple battling to make their flight

- By Annie Butterworth

AS the Beast from the East brought traffic to a standstill across the country, one couple abandoned their transport and walked along the hard shoulder to Glasgow Airport.

The man and woman were spotted pulling large suitcases on the edge of the M8 as a queue of stationary traffic built up on the inside lane.

Despite their dedication in attempting the one-mile hike to the airport, their efforts were no doubt in vain as almost all flights to and from Glasgow were cancelled for the day.

The airport issued a statement yesterday, saying: ‘Further heavy snowfall is forecast and we will provide updates regarding tomorrow’s scheduled services later this evening. Anyone with travel plans should contact their airline directly for flight information.’

Meanwhile, most airlines cancelled their operations from Edinburgh Airport despite efforts from staff to keep the runway clear.

A statement issued on behalf of the airport read: ‘We ask that passengers check with their airlines regarding flight status and do not travel to the airport unless they have a confirmed scheduled flight.’

British Airways and Flybe flights at Aberdeen Airport were cancelled yesterday afternoon until further notice. However, the runway remained open for all other flights. Prestwick Airport also remained open for business.
