Ed wants to build wedding chapel... on his own estate

- By Miles Dilworth

IF you want to have the ultimate celebrity wedding, there should be a unique setting, a selective guest list and of course, privacy.

And if Ed Sheeran gets his way, he might have all three for his celebrations – as he wants to build a chapel on his own estate.

The engaged pop star has submitted plans for a private Saxon-style building next to his Suffolk mansion.

The edifice would include an imposing 48ft tower and be built with traditional flint walls to hold an intimate congregation of 24.

If approved, it would stand in a new area of woodland, which the star has planted just yards behind his mansion in the village of Dennington, Suffolk.

It could prove an ideal wedding venue for singer, who has always been fiercely private about his relationship with fiancee Cherry Seaborn, 25.

A source told The Sun: ‘Even though Ed is one of the world’s biggest stars he does like to do things privately, like his engagement.

‘Having his wedding on his own land would mean they could celebrate their big day with just their nearest and dearest and then head back to the main house of a big party after.’

In the document accompanying the plans, the musician says it is essential that he builds the place of worship so he has somewhere to ‘retreat for contemplation and prayer.’ He also says house guests would use it to ‘regenerate their spiritual strength’.

Officials at East Suffolk Council are expected to make a decision on the application in April, paving the way for a possible summer wedding for the couple – if they hire very fast builders.

However, it is not clear whether Sheeran, 27, could actually get married in the chapel, as it is intended solely for the personal use of the singer and his guests.

All wedding venues need council licences, which are only be issued if a building is available for any member of the public to get married in.
