EASTON FIRES BACK AT FOOT

- By JOHN GREECHAN

IT IS an undercard bout that promises to deliver at least as many thrills as the main event. Jason Easton, already making a name for himself as a hard-as-nails warrior, taking on Glenn Foot for the vacant Commonwealth super-lightweight title. Easton, with an 11-0 record, guarantees there will be some edge to the ring ‘war’. Dismissive comments from the more experienced Foot, beaten three times in 24 fights, made sure of that. ‘He seems to think he’s going to steamroller me, saying he’ll walk through me in ten seconds,’ said 26-year-old Easton from Edinburgh. ‘We’ll see how that goes. ‘He talks about being in with top-class fighters like Sam Eggington and Josh Leather. ‘But he seems to be forgetting he lost to them both. He might have been in the same ring with good fighters but he couldn’t beat them. ‘He’s never been in the ring with Jason Easton. I wouldn’t have taken this fight if I wasn’t totally confident I’d beat him. ‘There’s a Commonwealth title at stake, it’s a huge platform at the Hydro and I’m ready to put on a show. There’s only going to be one winner.’ Meanwhile, amateur sensation Lee McGregor believes he is just months away from his first major pro title. McGregor, who walked away from a shot at Commonwealth Games gold to turn pro late last year, makes only his third outing in the paid ranks tonight. ‘I’m not messing about,’ said McGregor. ‘I believe can be British title holder by the summer. I have a good fan base. Maybe I could be headlining my own show by then.’
