New ‘sighting’ of Scot missing in Germany since stag night

- By Sam Walker

A ScoT who disappeared from a pub during a stag do in Germany six weeks ago has been ‘sighted’ 30 miles away from where he was last seen.

liam colgan, 29, vanished after leaving a bar alone in the Reeperbahn red light district of Hamburg in the early hours of February 10.

The postman, from inverness, had been in the city for his brother eamonn’s stag party, which he helped to organise.

The wedding planned for earlier this month has since been postponed.

A large-scale search operation was launched by police, with family and friends flying from Scotland to help with the hunt.

And his family yesterday revealed fresh hope after a witness reported seeing the missing man in Harsefeld, a town around 30 miles from Hamburg.

in a statement posted on Facebook, they said: ‘last week, liam’s brother and mother were in Hamburg raising awareness of his disappearance as well as following up on the latest sighting.

‘As many of you will be aware, a sighting of liam was reported in Harsefeld, a town 50km west of Hamburg.

‘Unfortunately, due to the lack of ccTV and photographic evidence, it was not possible to verify this sighting. Therefore, we are still uncertain as to liam’s whereabouts. We believe it may be possible that liam has left Hamburg.’

Mr colgan was due to be best man at his brother’s wedding and had been in the city as part of a group of 18, including his father, when he disappeared while drinking with a handful of the party in the Veermaster bar.

eamonn colgan, 33, launched a social media awareness drive, while a GofundMe page set up to fund the search has so far raised nearly £16,500.

Following the publicity effort a series of witness sightings led detectives to various parts of the city and its suburbs.

Mr colgan, a part-time musician, was also spotted on ccTV in the entrance to an office block ‘intoxicated’ and unstable on his feet hours after he vanished.

in pictures taken on the night, released by police, he can be seen wearing a straw hat, leather jacket and a grey hoodie.

At the time the missing man was described by police as being ‘heavily intoxicated’ when he stepped out of the bar and, according to witnesses, headed towards the Baumwall area of the city, where he was captured on ccTV stumbling down a flight of stairs outside a publishing house.
