Owner’s horror as tiny pet is mauled to death by alsatians

- By Annie Butterworth

A TINY dog was mauled to death by two out of control alsatians that broke through a fence to attack it ‘like a rag doll’.

Sheila Fullarton was walking her bichon frise Tilly when the dogs suddenly launched the frenzied assault.

Mrs Fullarton, 80, rushed her beloved pet to a vet but it died shortly afterwards.

Police are investigating but the pensioner fears nothing will be done to prevent a similar horror.

Mrs Fullarton was walking the seven-and-half-year-old pedigree dog in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, on Thursday afternoon when the alsatians attacked.

She said: ‘As I far as I am concerned my dog was murdered in the most dreadful fashion.

‘I was scared out of my wits and something has to be done. It was such a horrendous death. There are similar stories to mine but nothing seems to be being done.’

She added: ‘These dogs came tearing across the field. That could have been a toddler, and the same thing would have happened and that’s what I’m bothered about.

‘The dogs should be put down. I cannot blame the dog, I love animals, but they have obviously not been trained properly.’

Mrs Fullarton said that soon after that attack a man collected the teenage boy who was with the dogs and they drove off without giving her their details.

A source close to the family said: ‘The police have been very caring but they have said there is almost nothing they can do. There are no consequences, the law is not set up to deal with these situations.

‘A teenage boy was walking these two dogs off the lead in a field and Mrs Fullarton was walking down a very quiet residential street.

‘These two alsatians came bounding through the fields.

‘The dogs made their way to the fence and one got caught behind the fence. The other found a gap and made its way through.

‘It raced across the road and the second alsatian then got through and the pair of them took to Tilly like a rag doll.’

Councils can serve a Dog Control Notice (DCN) on owners whose dog has been out of control on at least one occasion.

It is a criminal offence to fail to comply with a DCN and an owner could be fined £1,000 or if a court considers the dog dangerous it may order it to be destroyed.

A police spokesman said the incident was being investigated.
