Deer-ly beloved, we are gathered here...

- By Joe Stenson

MOST wedding portraits feature the bride and groom flanked by rows of relatives.

However, Lanette and Ross O’Brien decided they wanted the photos of their big day to be a less crowded affair and headed off to the Highlands for the shots to be taken.

But as the newlyweds posed in a snowcovered Glen Coe, they found the local wildlife wanted to join in their celebration – and two deer struck a perfect pose with them.

The O’Briens had felt daunted by the prospect of organising and paying for a huge wedding ceremony involving the Canadian family of Lanette, 25, and the Dumbarton clan of Ross, 29.

Instead, after tying the knot at a simple ceremony at Glasgow City Chambers, and a pit stop at a local pub, they headed north with wedding photographer Neil Thomas Douglas.

Mrs O’Brien recalled: ‘There was sleet in Glasgow and it was freezing cold.

‘But the weather forecast was saying it was supposed to be a bit clearer in Glen Coe. It seemed a bit too good to be true but, lo and behold, when we drove out it was really sunny actually.

‘We had to wait outside and be patient for quite a long time in the freezing cold until the deer came over but it was definitely worth it. ‘They just kind of wandered over.’ However, the unique photoshoot took its toll on the bride’s outfit.

Mrs O’Brien explained: ‘My dress was really, really dirty and I’m in the process of cleaning it at the moment.’
