Missing Liam’s family follow up ‘new sightings’

- By Dean Herbert

A SCOT who disappeared during a stag party in Germany two months ago may be living homeless in Hamburg after losing his memory, his family have said.

Liam Colgan, 29, vanished in Hamburg after leaving a bar alone in the Reeperbahn red light district in the early hours of February 10.

The postman, from Inverness, had been there for his brother Eamonn’s stag party.

His family and German police failed to find any trace of him despite a huge search.

But yesterday it emerged new sightings were reported last week, prompting his 33-year-old brother to return to Germany.

An update on the Find Liam Colgan Facebook page read: ‘On Thursday last week our hope for a positive outcome was renewed due to two credible sightings being reported in Altona and at the Reeperbahn.

‘On the strength of these, Liam’s brother Eamonn and his partner Susan will return to Hamburg this week to give fresh impetus to the search.

‘One of the sightings provided us with a photograph which was the decisive factor for Liam’s family to make this trip.

‘While we are not overly optimis- tic regarding the photo we feel there are similar characteristics between the male in the photo and Liam that need to be investigated.

‘We must also consider that Liam has been missing two months now and his appearance will have changed.

‘Our assumption is still that Liam may have suffered a head injury and is unaware of who he is.

‘We ask that anyone who thinks they have spotted Liam to try to speak to him, take a photo if safe to do so and report your sighting to Hamburg Police and our Facebook page so that we can follow it up.’

Eamonn Colgan’s wedding, which was due to take place last month, was postponed.

He said: ‘We were getting to a stage where things had gone quite quiet, which was worrying.

‘However, in the last few days we had a sighting reported to us which had happened on the Thursday in the Altona area.

‘A male was presented as homeless. He was in an area where homeless people could get something to eat for their lunch.

‘The following day we had another sighting. He was again a homeless man. Again, this gives us something to deal with.’

Liam, who was wearing a leather jacket, grey hoodie and straw hat, was described by police as being ‘heavily intoxicated’ when he left the bar.

He was later captured on CCTV in the Baumwall area of the city, where he stumbled down a flight of stairs outside an office building.

Last month, a witness reported seeing him in Harsefeld, around 30 miles from Hamburg, but police were unable to find him there.

‘Unaware of who he is’
