DRESSING ROOM IS NO PLACE FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED...

-

n The civil war at Rangers has served yet again to illustrate the fragile faultlines that lie at the heart of football club dressing rooms. Here, Sportsmail recalls some famous bust-ups... n Sir Alex Ferguson and David Beckham, 2003 After Manchester United had been knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal, tensions were high in the home dressing room. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson singled out David Beckham for the full hairdryer treatment. The Scot then lashed a stray football boot in Beckham’s direction, hitting him just above his left eye. Beckham needed two stitches. The next day, he arrived at training with an Alice band pushing his hair back to highlight the injury to photographers. ‘After that, I told the board David had to go,’ said Ferguson. n Barry Ferguson and Paul le Guen, 2006 Le Guen’s Rangers reign quickly came off the rails. A series of losses had fans baying for his blood — and so were the players. After defeat to Inverness, skipper Barry Ferguson told him: ‘It’s not f ****** okay that we’ve lost another three points. What part of that don’t you get? This is

Rangers you’re working for.’ The Scot was banished to the reserves but, within a week, Le Guen was on his way.

n Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy, 2002 The simmering anger between the Republic of Ireland skipper and his international manager finally boiled over at a team meeting in Japan ahead of the 2002 World Cup. Keane, furious at the team’s poor training facilities, let rip: ‘Mick, you’re a liar... you’re a f ****** w ***** . I didn’t rate you as a player, I don’t rate you as a manager and I don’t rate you as a person.’
