Kipre is a summer target for Whitecaps

- By STEPHEN McGOWAN

MOTHERWELL defender Cedric Kipre is a summer transfer target for MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps. The 21-year-old extended his Fir Park contract last week, tying him to the Scottish Cup finalists until 2020. Despite a price tag in the region of £1million, however, Sportsmail understands the former Leicester City player features on a list of targets for the Canadian club — currently third in the MLS Western Conference. Initially signed on a one-year deal following a spell on trial, Kipre insists he is in no rush to leave Fir Park after the Steelmen breathed new life into his career. ‘I thank the club so much

for everything they have done for me,’ said Kipre after last Saturday’s semi-final victory over Aberdeen at Hampden. ‘They have allowed me to play football every week and this is all I ever want to do. ‘Everything that has happened at Motherwell was not what I was expecting. It has turned out much better,’ added Kipre, who is a key part of a Motherwell side who will appear in their second final of the season when they face Celtic in next month’s Scottish Cup showpiece. Meanwhile, chairman Jim McMahon last night announced the appointment of Alan Burrows as the club’s new chief executive. Burrows, aged 35, is a former communications manager and chief operating officer at the Lanarkshire side. McMahon said: ‘Alan is a dedicated and innovative individual whose main driving force is his desire to see the club progress. ‘He has been a key factor in the success the club has had since its move to fan ownership.’
