Girl of 11 f inds ‘stabbed’ mum dead in garden

Horror as she returns from school

- By Sam Walker

A MOTHER was found dead in the back garden of her home by her 11-year-old daughter, according to neighbours.

Jenniffer Morgan, 33, died following an incident in the Waterside area of Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire.

The alarm was raised when her daughter returned from school and found her mother’s body in the back garden of the flat where they lived. It is believed she had been stabbed.

According to neighbours she then sat sobbing in the street before telling them: ‘I think my mum’s dead.’

Police arrived at the flat, in a small council estate, shortly after 3.40pm on Wednesday. Two men, aged 39 and 32, were yesterday arrested in connection with the death.

Neighbour Michael Dunn, 58, a scaffolder, took the girl in after finding her sitting crying on a wall outside his house.

He said: ‘My daughter went over and asked her if she was OK and she said, “I think my mum’s dead”. She was hysterical, crying and she was shaking, still in her school uniform. She was trying to call someone, I think her dad.

‘My daughter went to the garden and saw the body covered in blood and ran back out again.

‘She is a mental health nurse and she has seen some things but she is still really shaken up by it.

‘We took the girl into our flat until her dad arrived and took her away. It was horrendous.

‘I’ve lived on this street for 33 years and nothing like this has ever happened.’

Originally from Glasgow, it is thought that Miss Morgan and her daughter moved to the area three weeks ago.

Forensics officers were still at the scene yesterday and a blue tent had been erected in the back garden of the flat.

Items of evidence had also been covered on the pavement at the front of the property and the street was cordoned off.

Detectives were also seen going door to door in the search for witnesses.

Miss Morgan’s daughter, who we have chosen not to name, was last night being cared for by relatives.

A man at the family home in the Lambhill area of Glasgow was too distressed to speak last night, but Miss Morgan’s sister, Laura Evans, 34, took to Facebook to thank friends for their support.

Michelle Lamb posted a tribute reading: ‘We met when I moved up here and became good friends.

‘She was the life and soul in our group and could light up a room with that big smile. A happy, bubbly, funny lassie. I’m absolutely gutted and gutted for you all.’

A police spokesman said: ‘A 39year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of Jenniffer Morgan at her home around 3.40pm on Wednesday. Her relatives are aware. Inquiries are continuing. One further man, aged 32 years, has also been arrested in connection with the incident.’
