Just Dandy...kids’ couture by Stella

- By Annie Butterworth

HER designs have been worn by celebrities at red carpet events around the world.

But some famous faces from closer to home have inspired Stella McCartney’s latest range.

The designer’s new collection for children features much-loved characters from comics The Beano and The Dandy. Minnie the Minx, Korky the Cat, Dinah Mo and the terrible twosome Cuddles and Dimples are all included in the range.

Created by DC Thomson of Dundee, The Dandy was launched in 1 38 and The Beano a year later.

Miss McCartney, 46, said: ‘The Beano was a huge part of my childhood and the rebellious and fun nature celebrated in the comic led the collection’s design process.

‘After the success of the Dandy women’s range last year, we were keen to celebrate the next generation of Beano fans with a range for kids who still share the “Beano” spirit of these iconic characters.’

Beano Studios boss Emma Scott said: ‘Working alongside Stella to bring to life Minnie the Minx, Korky the Cat and Dinah Mo is a fantastic opportunity. Stella brings famous Beano and Dandy heroes to life in a new way that connects with Beano children of today.’

In 2012, Miss McCartney’s father Sir Paul had a cameo in the final issue of The Dandy after saying in 1 63 that it was one of his life’s ambitions to feature in the comic.
