Star Dougray’s pride in wife who stood up to Weinstein

‘Being a woman in acting is hard’

SCOTS screen star Dougray Scott has praised the bravery of his actress wife and other women in Hollywood who came forward to accuse film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct.

The Fife-born actor described Weinstein – said to be a sexual predator who preyed on young women looking for their big break – as an ‘incredibly talented filmmaker’.

But the Mission Impossible star, who is currently starring in BBC period drama The Woman in White, said the movie mogul was a ‘disaster’ as a human being.

Scott’s 46-year-old wife Claire Forlani was one of many women in the film industry who joined the ‘Me Too’ movement last October when they made allegations of inappropriate behaviour by men such as Weinstein.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her daytime TV chat show, Scott admitted that his wife was ‘very brave’ for putting herself in the spotlight.

The 52-year-old actor, originally from Glenrothes, said: ‘Being a woman in our industry is hard enough.

‘We need to get to a place where gender is not an issue.’

Miss Forlani, who has starred in Meet Joe Black, took to social media to share her claims over the disgraced producer in the wake of the first public allegations last year.

The actress said: ‘Nothing happened to me with Harvey – by that I mean, I escaped five times.

‘Yes, massage was suggested. I remember him telling me all the actresses who had slept with him and what he had done for them.’
