Faces in the crowd… Kate and the kids’ dressed-down Bank Holiday
WHEN last we saw them they were dressed up and on their best behaviour at their uncle Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle.
But it was a more relaxed Prince George and Princess Charlotte who were spotted out and about at the weekend.
Together with their mother the Duchess of Cambridge, they looked like a typical family enjoying a day in the sun as they attended the Houghton horse trials in Norfolk on Sunday.
Kate, 36, looked cool in a blue dress as she doted on George, four, and three-year-old Charlotte. The family enjoyed ice creams and sweets and did their best to go unnoticed among the crowds at the equestrian event.
The duchess, who was last pictured wearing an Alexander McQueen coat dress at Prince Harry’s wedding, wore a £39.99 cotton dress from high street favourite Zara, which sold out within hours of these pictures appearing online yesterday.
She accessorised her outfit with a £100 tote bag from Australian brand Little Makes Big and Catherine Zoraida leaf earrings, which cost £150.
George was seen climbing into an air ambulance vehicle – his father Prince William was a pilot with the East Anglian service until July last year – while Charlotte, in a pink floral dress and matching pumps, tucked into a strawberry ice cream.
Jack Schmollmann, who took pictures of the happy family, said the Duchess of Cambridge was the image of a devoted mother.
The 32-year-old barber told the Daily Mail: ‘We were sitting on the bench having something to eat and I noticed this beautiful woman in a blue dress who had two kids with her and I suddenly realised who it was.
‘I think other people noticed them but not everybody because they did their best to blend in and were just going about their daily lives. They were having a nice family day out, eating ice creams and sitting in the sunshine. Kate had picked up a toy of some sort for George which he started unwrapping and they looked like they were having a nice, relaxing day.
‘It was just the three of them but there were two plain clothes officers at a distance.’ The family outing on Sunday was the first time that Kate, George and Charlotte have been seen in public since the royal wedding on May 19.
But it is not the first time the Cambridges have been spotted at the Houghton horse trials, which take place near their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall. Kate and William were seen with George and Charlotte at the event in 2016, along with friends James Meade and his wife Lady Laura Marsham.
The three-day equestrian festival includes showjumping and eventing, with children’s entertainment on offer as well.
