Inside McKidd’s £2.2m LA mansion

- By Toby McDonald

IT’s a far cry from the seedy side of Edinburgh depicted in the film that made his name more than 20 years ago.

Trainspotting star Kevin McKidd has just splashed out more than £2million on a Hollywood mansion for his new family.

He is moving into a five-bedroom Los Angeles home with his second wife and baby son Aiden.

The 44-year-old Scot, who plays Dr Owen Hunt in Grey’s Anatomy, married Arielle Goldrath, 30, in March.

He has two children – Joseph, 16, and Iona, 14 – from his first marriage to Jane Parker. They split in 2015 after more than 15 years.

The actor, who now directs the longrunning show, handed over two homes and £750,000-a-year support in a multi-millionpound divorce settlement.

Yesterday, it was revealed McKidd had bought a £2.22million house in the exclu- sive Los Angeles suburb of Sherman Oaks. It has six bathrooms, white-oak floorboards and a camera-equipped security system. Outside, there are covered porches, manicured gardens and a salt water pool and spa.

New Yorker Miss Goldrath, who lives in Topanga, just outside LA, is the co-owner of the Canyon Girls Catering Company, which works on film shoots.

After the success of Trainspotting, McKidd struggled to find regular work. So the actor, who once worked in a distillery in his native Elgin, moved to the US after landing the role of Roman soldier turned politician Lucius Vorenus in HBO’s Rome.

But when his first solo show Journeyman was cancelled halfway through its first season, McKidd was so broke he was on the verge of moving back to Britain.

Then he was offered a guest role in Grey’s Anatomy, which has now lasted nine years. He has directed 18 episodes.

In an interview for DA Man magazine, McKidd said: ‘I was a painfully shy young man. Acting gave me an outlet in a safe space to express myself in those awkward years. I also drive myself to always be as truthful as I can be. That’s all I really care about: to find the truth in the moment. Fame has never driven me.’

He said his ambition was to go back on stage. ‘It’s on my bucket list to perform in a Broadway or West End musical. I’ve been approached a few times but I’ve been too busy filming. It’s definitely a wish and hopefully before I’m too old I can fulfil it.’
