HEIGHT OF MADNESS

Heart-stopping online video shows youths climbing a 213ft radio mast before performing stunts – and even hanging by one hand

- By Alan Shields

THESE terrifying images show a group of young men teetering precariously on a radio tower.

The men have been condemned for a series of videos showing them scaling buildings, cranes and other structures without permission.

A YouTube channel shows the men, who don’t use any safety equipment, ‘free climbing’ and showing off by performing hand stands and other stunts at great height.

In the most recent video two youths risk their lives as they scale a 213ft tall radio tower in Northfield, Aberdeen.

The footage shows the pair scrambling up the structure, which is shrouded in fog. One man even stands right at the tip of the transmitter.

They can be seen walking along girders high above the ground, and both youths take turns at hanging off a platform by one hand.

Local councillor for the area Ciaran McRae said: ‘This type of stunt sets a bad example for other people who may be tempted to follow suit.’

Other videos show people climbing Pittodrie Stadium, a church in Aberdeen city centre and various other tall structures.

Inspector Stuart McAdam said: ‘Be aware that you could be charged with a criminal offence if you engage is such activities, particularly if you enter restricted areas and put yourself and others at risk.’
