Little pickers wear bigger knickers... jibe by Ramsay’s wife that made him lose 4 stone!

- By Annie Butterworth

HE’S renowned for his foul-mouthed rants and fiery criticism of others in shows such as Hell’s Kitchen.

But celebrity TV chef Gordon Ramsay got a roasting himself when his wife ordered him to lose weight.

The 51-year-old Scot was prompted to shed more than four stone when Tana took him to task over his ballooning waistline.

Ramsay, originally from Johnstone, Renfrewshire, admits his renewed health regime is also due to losing his father from a heart attack.

In a TV interview on the Today show in the US, he added that it pained him to know his father never ate in any of his restaurants.

Now a slender 13st 10lb, the chef is training for triathlons alongside his wife of 22 years, who explained how she broached the topic of his weight.

She said: ‘Gordon’s famous for being blunt, so I gave him a little bit of his own medicine and basically suggested he was getting a little wide around his middle. He got really angry with me when I came out saying, “Little pickers wear bigger knickers”.’

But Ramsay, who owns 34 restaurants worldwide, admits his 18 stone starting weight was down to picking at food. He said: ‘That’s the job, so you’re grazing. I’m very good now at eating five times a day, but small amounts, as opposed to eating a big breakfast, a light lunch and a big dinner.’

Ramsay’s father, also named Gordon, died of a heart attack at the age of 53. ‘That’s two years away from where I am now,’ says the chef, who is worth around £38million.

‘I was just coming into 30 years of age. I never got to spend that quality time with my father. That man never, ever ate in my restaurant and it pains me today to think that.’
