I hate that dog! Turner on his canine co-star

-

HE’S previously gushed about his relationships with his co-stars, saying they are like a family.

But it seems there is one who Aidan Turner does not think so highly of: Garrick the dog.

The actor says he ‘hates’ the hound, named Barley, which is best known as Demelza Poldark’s canine companion.

The dog has been featured in Hollywood films, including Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, since appearing in the show in 2015 – and even appeared on stage with Paul O’Grady and Dermot O’Leary at the National Television Awards this year.

Admitting he was ‘probably jealous’ of his success, Turner said: ‘I hate that dog ... I’ve never disliked an animal in my life, but I just don’t like that dog.’

He told Heat magazine: ‘You can’t pet him – he just bites you. He’s looking for a treat the whole time. Zero love from me.’

And at a screening for series four of the show, which returned last night, the actor, 34, said: ‘He’s just a working dog, you know, so you don’t get affection... He just works more than me so I’m probably jealous.’

The dog’s owner, Gill Raddings, would not comment on Turner’s remarks but said: ‘Barley has never put a foot wrong...We do enjoy working on Poldark very much.’

Barley was adopted from Battersea Dogs Home by the trainer, and has gone on to become one of the most successful animals she has worked with. Miss Raddings said: ‘He’s very intelligent, picks up tricks really easily ... I knew I’d gotten a really special dog.
