Lily spends FIVE hours a day on Twitter
THESE days, Lily Allen is nearly as well known for airing her views on social media as she is for her singing career.
And now the mother of two, 33, has revealed how much time she spends setting the world to rights on Twitter – five hours a day.
The pop star even admitted she fibs to her children while constantly browsing online, telling them she is doing ‘work’.
Appearing on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch yesterday, she said: ‘It’s definitely a love-hate relationship [with Twitter].
‘I spend way too much time on there, like five hours a day or something? It’s where I get most of my news from, it’s where I converse with my fans, it’s where I read about other artists.
‘I find so much from there. It’s not all just “self”.’ Miss Allen’s use of Twitter has caused controversy in the past.
Last year, she was criticised for using social media to promote her theories about the Grenfell Tower inferno, claiming many more people died than the official toll of 72.
And last month she was accused of glamorising drug use after joking on Twitter about how she once passed out at a party after being given the horse tranquilliser ketamine.
Asked if she was worried about the impact of Twitter on her children, Ethel, six, and Marnie, five, she said: ‘I’m more worried about Instagram with them to be honest. I’m a mum of two girls and [Instagram] is so much about visuals, body image and stuff like that.’
She said her daughters’ ‘relationship with social media’ was limited to watching her updating her profile. ‘They ask “what are you doing?” I’m like “just work” and they say “oh yeah, because you have to get people to like you.”’
Miss Allen is regarded as one of the first music artists to build a following using social media. Her 2006 No1 single Smile originally appeared on her MySpace profile.
The singer is currently promoting her new album No Shame which was released on Friday. She performed at London’s G-A-Y nightclub in the early hours of Sunday wearing a bejewelled rainbow outfit. She told Sunday Brunch she had only slept for half an hour before appearing on the show.
