If Trump did Brexit

DONALD Trump could discover a cure for cancer and people would still carp on about what a brute he is. Sure, he’s no Boy Scout, but would anyone else have had the stomach to drag north Korea to the negotiating table? I’m starting to think Boris Johnson is right: if Trump was in charge of Brexit, things might not be very pretty, but they would at least be moving.

EXACTLY what I predicted has happened in Italy. After years of their requests to the EU for help with the migrant crisis being ignored, the Italians have elected a Right-wing government, which is now refusing entry to migrants. Thanks to the inertia of Brussels, the lives of vulnerable people — many of them unaccompanied children — are now at risk. So much for the rainbow of nations and the unifying power of the European Union.

I Do wish people would stop using the word ‘historical’ for events that are still unfolding. Historical means ‘belonging to the past’. The meeting between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump is many things — unprecedented, unlikely, maybe even hysterical. But it’s not historical. not yet.
