Stunning fightback keeps Scots alive

SCOTLAND Women kept their World Cup qualifying hopes alive with a remarkable 3-2 comeback win over Poland in Kielce. Lisa Evans grabbed a dramatic 90th-minute winner after Shelley Kerr’s side had looked down and out after falling two goals behind. The Scots went into the game three points behind Group Two leaders Switzerland and conceded in the sixth minute when what looked like a cross from Dzesika Jaszek floated past goalkeeper Lee Alexander and into the net. A tough task was made even more difficult in the 66th minute when defender Sophie Howard turned a cross into her own net from 10 yards out. The visitors, however, kept going and Kim Little reduced the deficit in the 78thminute when her flighted free-kick from the left by-passed everyone and ended up in the net. Substitute Jane Ross levelled two minutes later when she scrambled the ball in from eight yards. With seven minutes remaining, Evans broke free in the box and guided in an angled-drive to complete an unlikely comeback. Kerr’s side have five wins out of six and face a double-header against Switzerland and Albania later this year which will determine their fate.
