Training base renamed after makers of new kit
RANGERS have sold the naming rights to their Auchenhowie training base to new kit manufacturers Hummel. The Milngavie facility was named after former Rangers chairman David Murray when it opened in 2001. Two years since current chairman Dave King sought suggestions for a rebranding, however, Steven Gerrard’s new-look squad will now prepare for the new season at the Hummel Training Centre. The Ibrox club confirmed a new three-year deal with the Danish firm worth a reported £10million in April after ending their long-running agreement with Puma. It’s unclear if Hummel have paid more cash for the naming rights to the training ground and club academy. With the appearance of the new-look kit still a closely guarded secret, however, Rangers were yesterday forced to issue a clarification after new signing Nikola Katic was picture in a Hummel branded shirt. Responding to speculation the blue jersey was the new kit for next season, the Rangers media team tweeted one supporter saying: ‘Nikola was wearing @hummel1923 training wear for today’s photos.’
