Holiday Scot suffers head injury in fall on to beach in Majorca
A SCOTS holidaymaker was being treated in a Spanish hospital yesterday after suffering head injuries in a fall.
John Anderson, who is from Lerwick, Shetland, was found after falling off a sea wall in Majorca in the early hours of Tuesday.
The 57-year-old port authority worker is thought to have lain unconscious for around seven hours following a night out with his wife and friends before being found.
He was found at El Toro beach near the popular resort of Santa Ponsa.
He is thought to have stayed behind to smoke a cigarette while the group returned to their hotel. He is being treated in Son Espases Hospital for a head injury and the onset of hypothermia.
One friend wrote on social media: ‘I have just spoken with the British Consulate in Palma and they confirmed John has been in an accident. We pray that John is OK.’
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office was unable to confirm his condition.
A spokesman said: ‘Foreign Office staff are assisting a British man following his hospitalisation in Palma and are in contact with his family and the Spanish authorities.’
According to reports, Mr Anderson was on holiday with his wife Ellen, 59, and daughter Eilidh, 27.
