Drunken mum attacked flight attendant while on way to rehab

-

A MOTHER of two attacked a flight attendant after downing wine and gin on her way to rehab last year.

Alison Devine, 41, had drunk a bottle of wine and several small bottles of gin ‘within just half an hour’ before boarding a plane at Glasgow Airport.

She had to be restrained mid-flight by airline staff and a fellow passenger on an Aer Lingus flight to County Donegal in March 2017.

The Scottish businesswoman was en route to an addiction centre to seek help for alcoholism but fell off the wagon while waiting alone at the terminal.

She was arrested on landing and charged with being drunk and assaulting a cabin crew member, Haley Walsh.

She appeared in Letterkenny District Court later that month.

The judge heard that a drunken Devine had grabbed Mrs Walsh by the wrist.

Patsy Gallagher, defending, told the court that Devine was a ‘Jekyll and Hyde character’.

He said: ‘She drank a bottle of wine in literally two minutes and bought five or six small bottles of gin and downed them.’

Mrs Walsh – who was left traumatised and bruised – had to travel on to Dublin to work on another flight but then had to take time off work.

Devine, from Boghead, Lanarkshire, pleaded guilty to both charges and was ordered to pay a 200 euro donation to the Depaul Charity.
