Three held over death of man at beauty spot

- By Dean Herbert

THREE people have been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose body was found at a nature reserve.

Steven Donaldson, 27, was found dead at the Loch of Kinnordy Nature Reserve near Kirriemuir, Angus, on Thursday, June 7.

Police said the attack that killed him was ‘brutal’ and carried out using a ‘sharp, heavy’ weapon.

Yesterday, three people – a 1 -year-old woman and two men, both aged 23 – were arrested.

The senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent James Smith of Police Scotland’s major investigation team, said: ‘I would like to thank all those who have provided information and assistance in connection with this inquiry so far.

‘Our inquiries are still ongoing and I would encourage anyone with information they think could assist to contact police.’

The offshore worker’s body was discovered by two passersby at 5am, a few feet from his white BMW.

Detectives set up an exclusion area, with all points of access to the reserve cordoned off, and a no-fly zone for drones, while officers conducted forensic searches of the car park and the access road.

On Monday evening, dozens of officers swooped on a building near the centre of Kirriemuir, a six-minute drive from Loch of Kinnordy.

Police stood guard overnight before forensic teams entered the building and took numerous photographs before removing filled evidence bags.
