FOR most families, negotiating a day off school during term-time is a tricky affair.

But not for Jamie Vardy and his wife Rebekah, whose children have been given eight days off to go and enjoy the World Cup in Russia.

Mrs Vardy, 36, said teachers had ‘given their blessing’ for the children to go and support their footballer father, 31.

‘I’m going initially for 12 straight days, so we’re taking the kids out of school, and I’ve got the school’s blessing to do so. I don’t have to go, but I couldn’t not go. I want to be there to support my husband,’ she told ITV show Loose Women.

The couple have two children, Sofia, four, and Finley, one, who will be staying at a hotel during the games. The former I’m a Celebrity contestant’s children from a previous relationship, Megan, 11, and Taylor, six, will be attending the matches.

She said: ‘My daughter Megs and my son Taylor can’t wait for the games. This is a life experience I didn’t want them to miss – it’s a memory they’ll have forever.

‘They both do well at school and have a great attendance record so when I approached their schools about taking them out to Russia, they agreed it would be great for them.’

Parents voiced their frustration online, suggesting the Vardys received preferential treatment while ‘normal’ families face a £60 fine for taking their children out of school.

One wrote on Twitter: ‘How is it fair that WAGs can take their children out of school to visit their footballer dads, with the school’s blessing, but service men and women’s children’s can’t?’

Mrs Vardy also explained she was taking a team of bodyguards to Russia, adding: ‘We always seek extra security, mainly because I’m taking the children with me.’
