AINE PAIGE (left), who was in New for the Tony Awards. I bumped into musical actress at the official at the Plaza hotel, and then later at press agent Rick Miramontez’s fab town at the Carlyle hotel. e was up in the Penthouse suite, and actor after leading actor came up to her feet. glasgow-born James McArdle of director Marianne elliott’s Tony winning Angels In America, which at the National Theatre — was on es before her. s still partying at 4am. e has a special report on the Tony Awards on Radio 2 tonight at 8pm, which is being repeated on Sunday afternoon.

ANIKA NONI ROSE (pictured right), who raises the temperature of the Classic Stage Company’s 13th Street Theater in New York with her scorching performance of title character Carmen Jones, in director John Doyle’s pared-back production of Oscar Hammerstein II’s verion of Georges Bizet’s opera, which I caught in previews. Doyle cuts to the story and the music and allows you to pay attention to exactly what factory worker Carmen is up to as she pursues the men she hopes will show her love ‘that grows up wild’. Rose has a wonderful voice and is a sublime actress — as anyone who saw her in Dreamgirls and in other shows will attest. The ten-strong ensemble — which includes Clifton Duncan, Lindsay Roberts, Tramell Tillman, David Aron Damane, Erica Dorfler, Andrea Jones-Sojola, Justin Keyes, Soara-Joye Ross and Lawrence E. Street — sing and beat out their rhythms to perfection.
