O’Halloran’s Oz unveiling hits a hitch
RANGERS flop Michael O’Halloran’s switch to Melbourne City suffered a bad start yesterday when the Australian club got his name wrong as they confirmed his signing. The winger penned a two-year deal with the A-League side after failing to make his mark at Ibrox. But as Melbourne unveiled the 27-year-old on their Instagram story, they named him ‘Scott’ O’Halloran, before deleting the post and correcting the image. The ex-St Johnstone attacker is now looking forward to working under a coach who believes in him after failing to impress Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha at Rangers. O’Halloran only made 15 Premiership starts for the Ibrox club and believes Melbourne boss Warren Joyce can help him hit the heights he did at McDiarmid Park under Saints boss Tommy Wright. O’Halloran said: ‘I spoke to (Joyce) and knew right away that he’s a good football person. He is someone you want to play under and do well for. He can improve me as a player. ‘When the coach believes in you, it gives you self-confidence. I feel I always work better under a coach who is encouraging.’ O’Halloran was contracted with Rangers until 2020 but wanted to kick start his career elsewhere. He is now targeting Asian Champions League football and a title with City, who finished third in last season’s A-League. ‘I’m coming to try to play my part in a successful team that can win the league,’ he said. ‘Our aim, first and foremost, will be getting into the Asian Champions League.’
